Increasing efficiency is currently one of the most important goals in the development process in the automotive sector. Nowadays the auxiliary units of commercial vehicles are usually driven load-independently and mechanically connected to the internal combustion engine. Using electric actuators to drive auxiliary units power on demand is promising to increase the total efficiency of the vehicle. In this context, this paper deals with the electrification of the auxiliary drives for the commercial vehicles based on air compressor. The methods and approaches to estimate the fuel saving capability are described. Consequently the energy consumption and fuel saving potential is calculated based on numeric simulation model for a selected vehicle.
