For achieving effective utilization of advanced air traffic operation systems such as Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM), harmonization with control activities of Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs) is one of the key issues to be tackled. In the present research, a process visualization tool of ATC tasks called COMPASi (COMPAS in interactive mode/COMPAS: COgnitive system Model for simulating Projection-based behavior of Air traffic controllers in dynamic Situations) has been applied to analyze the effects of air traffic flow control on ATC task demands. Through simulation-based experiments using COMPASi, beneficial and adverse effects of air traffic flow control on ATC task demands were successfully demonstrated in a couple of traffic situations where different control strategies of an ATCO were adopted. This result has indicated the applicability of COMPASi as a support tool for evaluating the effectiveness of ATFM with consideration of controllers' working methods.
