This paper summarizes the cooperative concept as well as the functionality of the applications ecoSituational Model (eSiM) and ecoDriving Support developed in the research project eCoMove. Analysis of validation tests assessing the eSiM proves that the utilization of cooperative information in the prediction of upcoming vehicle behavior is feasible and results in high prediction accuracies. Information from vehicle-to-vehicle or vehicle-to-infrastructure communication can hence be used to reliably recommend efficient driving strategies to drives in order to reduce emissions. This work presents two different HMI concepts realized in the project. Visual as well as haptic feedback to drives is provided. Based on several real-world validation tests the authors prove a significant reduction of fuel consumption of 10.7% in average in urban traffic by using the ecoDriving Support application. At the same time travel time increases in average by 4.7% while driver acceptance of the HMI concepts is considerably high. The assessed test drives indicate even greater reductions of fuel consumption for driving scenarios that include rural and motorway driving. The recommendations of a professional human eco-trainer outperform those of the system with respect to fuel consumption reductions slightly by 1.7%. However the driving-trainer recommends long roll-out maneuvers in Neutral that are not convenient for many subjects and most probably will not be realized by many persons in daily driving. Raw measurements and analysis results gained in the validation test drives described in this work are a useful basis for further improvements of the system.
