Diese Arbeit stellt ein Modell zum Abschätzen der Auswirkungen von Angriffen gegen Infotainment Systeme vor. Basierend auf dem Modell wird das Risiko der einzelnen Angriffe kalkuliert und Gegenmaßnahmen werden vorgeschlagen.
In this work, we present a model to understand and estimate the impact of various attacks against infotainment units based on the number of affected vehicles, the type (wired vs. wireless) and reception range of the attacked interfaces, and the effect on corresponding assets (material and immaterial). Using this model, the risk of each attack is evaluated, where risk is a function of likelihood of a successful attack and its damage impact. This work also lists countermeasures that can be applied to individual components of an infotainment unit, and shows how a combination of these countermeasures can create multiple layers of protection and hence mitigate the likelihood and the impact of a successful attack. In consideration of the fact that it is often difficult (sometimes even impossible) to secure a vulnerable component, if a serious security threat has been detected in the field, due to lack of connectivity with the backend; this work also outlines security measures that improve the overall security of a vehicle by containing attacks inside the infotainment unit, and thus preventing them from spreading to the rest of the vehicle.
