Helicopters are generating vibrations during all flight conditions within the operating envelope. This vibration is mainly of deterministic nature and is concentrated in the lower frequency band. The human body is very sensitive to this kind of vibration, which can affect the performance, the comfort feeling and the health of the crew and/or the passengers. Eurocopter improves the vibrations behaviour of its helicopter and correspondingly structural designs continuously. In addition various developed anti-vibration devices permit to efficiently decrease the cabin and cockpit vibration levels, taking into account the human body natural sensitivity to vibrations. Eurocopter is optimising the design process for improving comfort and limiting impact on health for helicopter users particularly with regard to the EU directive 2002/44/EC. Recent tests showed that some measurement approaches must not be fully representative for the vibratory level perceived by the crew. The impact of the seat dynamics, for example, cannot be neglected in any case and additional measurements have to be performed between the seat and the contact areas with the body.
