In this paper, an ARCS (active roll control system) with ICC (integrated chassis control) for H4Vs was proposed. The roll angle and the roll rate were estimated using the open-loop observer by simply integrating the roll angular acceleration, which is obtained from the 1DOF roll model driven by the lateral acceleration. The ARCS was designed with model-matching control. To check the performance of the proposed ARCS, Bode plot analysis and a simulations study were performed. To maintain the manoeuvrability and the lateral stability, ICC was designed. In ICC, WPAC (weighted pseudo-inverse-based control allocaton) was adopted to coordinate the actuator configuration ESC + AFS + 4WD available in H4Vs. To use WPCA for the yaw moment distribution, variable weightings corresponding to the actuator configuration were proposed. Simulation-based optimization was proposed to improve the yaw moment distribution. Through simulations, it was shown that the proposed ARCS can effectively reduce the roll angle and the roll rate, and that the simulation-based optimization can significantly improve vehicle stability for H4Vs.
