To avoid vortex shedding induced vibrations, the VEGA Launch System (LS) comprises a decoupling system at the launch vehicle (LV) base called Anti Vortex Shedding device (AVS). During the LV-Ground Segment combined qualification programme in Kourou, the LV sitting on AVS was characterized by a modal characterization test, subjected to a functional verification applying artificial vortex excitation and finally exposed to real wind environment. This paper provides an overview on the particular aspects of this activity inside the launch pad mobile gantry (MG), its results and conclusion for the VEGA launch system's operational readiness.
