The key function of a sprayer tyre is to carry load: On the field, but also on the road (particularly in the EU). The two main difficulties are the constant load variation and the sizable amount of mass of the full sprayer tank on the road. This means that the tyre never works under optimal conditions. The ability to carry maximal load has become the top priority, and is also the focus of this article. The mass of high-clearance agricultural sprayers (ex: RoGator) is increasing. This challenge provided the initiative for the Michelin tyre design group, in coordination with AGCO, to develop a new tyre that is dedicated to this application. This paper first describes the main functions of a tyre. Second, the paper reviews the tyre sizing approach, which must take into consideration pneumatic properties. Finally, the structural impact of the tyre design and the effect of its very high flexion on the load capacity of the tyre is shown. The Michelin SprayBib agricultural tyre range is the result of Michelin research to optimize pneumatic and structural components. The SprayBib tyre design not only contributes to meeting challenging requirements in the agricultural plant and machinery industry, but it provides users with a solution specifically designed to achieve higher performance as measured in a higher agricultural crop yield.
