The majority of modern passenger carriages and EMUs are equipped with disc brake systems, since the braking torque generated at the friction interface of the brake discs and the composite brake pads only slightly changes with the speed of the vehicle, and the wear of the wheel treads and the noise generation are also reduced in comparison with those at the traditional block brake systems. The structural and strength dimensioning of the disc brake system requires a thorough dynamical analysis for determining the dynamic forces acting upon the components of the force exerting system, e.g. the pad holders, the calipers, the hanger irons and the silent block suspension connections, in this study a complex in plane dynamical system model and numerical simulation method are developed for determining the motion and force processes emerging in the connecting elements of the disc brake system in the course of normal brake applications. The elaborated non-linear dynamical model treats the horizontal braking forces arising in the wheel/rail rolling contact also for the events occurring in the close neighbourhood of the stopping instant. An emphasized goal of the computer based numerical simulation is an acceptable approximate quantitative description of the processes known as "'stopping jerk", i.e. the horizontal and vertical pulse-like load variation processes arising in the brake pad suspension system prior to and in the state of complete stopping.
