Decontaminants remove chemical warfare agent (CWA) from contaminated surfaces to avoid health hazards in battle field conditions, chemical weapon stockpile facilities, and other related laboratories. Nanosized TiO2 (NT) are reported to exhibit superior decontamination properties against CWA, and possess good stability, negligible toxicity, and low cost. This study evaluates sorbent decontaminants [fullers earth (FE), fast act (FA), activated alumina (AA), mixed oxide aerogel Al2O3-CuO (MOA), nanosized TiO2 (NT)] for physical removal efficiency and chemical reactivity using gas chromatography against sulphur mustard (HD) contaminated surfaces of glass, metal, painted metal, and rubber. NT exhibited superior physical removal efficiency and chemical reactivity against HD, thus proving as potential sorbent decontaminant against chemical warfare agent (CWA) spills.
