Cassidian's SmartRadar system integrated into a pod and qualified to be operated on a LearJet platform went air-borne in 2011. Several radar modes were flown successfully, i.e. SAR and GMTI. The system operates an active electronically scanned array antenna (AESA) which provides three sub-apertures. This allows to perform GMTI detection, plot generation, tracking and surveillance for large areas of interest. The multi channel radar data are used to apply STAP techniques for clutter suppression and angle estimation. This paper gives an overview on the GMTI mode relevant issues, i.e. system and mode design aspects. Further-more results from flight trials in 2011 are presented.
