Since at least the 1980s, the history of plastic in the automotive applications has been a success story: about 14% of the automotive is made of plastic. Beginning of the 21st century, lots of people agreed to say that the trend was to increase this percentage. But now, we have to admit that this percentage has not changed that way and stayed unchanged. The present paper will give an overview of the current applications of plastics in the powertrain, the impacts of regulations on plastics applications and will conclude with some outlooks.
