Overhaed presentation. To add the stop/start technology to conventional automatic transmission (AT) powertrains for improved fuel economy a 12-V- stop/start system w/torque converter based automatic transmission and an electric pump for planetary AT as well as an enhanced starter have been developed. In this overhead presentation the following issues are described: Re-Start/launch Challenge; Stop/Start AT; Re-Start Challenge for different types of transmissions; Challenge to AT transmission & its controls; ReStart / Launch vehicle NVH modeling; Control strategy & software development-testing; Trans torque mitigation control; Engine flare control & trans torque mitigation results. It can be sown that the auto stop/start for a conventional vehicle with 12V-system offers improved fuel economy. The engine re-start is becoming a challenge to manage with stop/start-technology. The trans torque mitigation control is robust against noise factors (e.g. engine flare, temperature) and is robust for quick and smooth launch with an added engine flare control.
