The new dual clutch transmission 7G-DCT from Mercedes-Benz has been developed for use as an automatic transmission in the new generation of compact vehicles. Its outstanding features are its short design and the high level of function integration. The integrated, electrical auxiliary oil pump makes a major contribution to this. This pump facilitates easy re-starting in stop-start mode as well as the integration of the park-by-wire system. The functional and design features of the 7G-DCT together allow a clear improvement in fuel consumption compared to the previous transmission, the Autotronic. The function software, which was also developed internally, offers application-oriented opportunities, which ideally underline the different characteristics of the vehicles in the new compact model.
