The properties of ATI 2003 (UNS S32003) LDSS (Lean Duplex Stainless Steel) make it an excellent choice for many applications where corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and easy field fabrication and weldability are important. In architectural applications, the environment where the project will be constructed is an important consideration in material selection. Marine environments, such as those near the Persian Gulf and the Pacific Ocean, can be particularly challenging. This paper will present updated details on the application and fabrication of ATI 2003 material for the roof and ancillary components of a new airport being built in Doha, Qatar. Similar details will be provided for an ATI 2003 LDSS roof installed on a residence in Hawaii. Field experiences and lessons learned during these projects will be presented, as will the inherent attributes of the alloy in terms of improved stress corrosion cracking resistance, weldability, and ease of fabrication. Potential advantages of using ATI 2003 LDSS in other architectural applications will also be presented.
