The presented configurable Gateway offers a variety of applications to support the development and testing phase of the bus systems in vehicles. The supported bus system interfaces Local Interconnect Network (LIN), Low- and High-Speed Complete Area Network (CAN) and FlexRay can be connected to different bus systems to represent a typical gateway functionality. By using the developed configuration software all received data is editable in a way that it can be rearranged and completed by other frames or by fixed values to meet all target-bus requirements for each message. This offers the opportunity to investigate the exchange of the bus interfaces of control devices without modifications on the used bus-system. The possibility of receiving data packets from the automotive bus systems on a PC using Ethernet and also injecting packets from a PC opens a huge field of applications, such as developing computationally intensive algorithms on a PC and using the gateway as a hardware interface to the respective bus systems. Furthermore, selective manipulations of the communication can be performed for testing purposes and conventional data logging functions can also be realized easily using the integrated CF-card interface. Almost every task that occurs during the development of network connections in a vehicle can be supported by using the realized gateway.
