Electric Vehicles open a new way for mobility by allowing new forms of customized energy supply thanks to the ubiquity of the energy that is to be supplied, i.e. electricity. Electricity, contrary to gas stations, is available anywhere in the urban areas of developed countries. This obviously includes garages and parking lots, which in some cases will have to be upgraded with EV charging stations. In most cases this upgrade will just require some additional electrical installation, but automated parking systems will require more sophisticated charging systems. The rehabilitation of built heritage of the consolidated areas of our cities is a priority and an area of growing activity. In many old buildings the lack of parking space is a problem that real estate development companies have solved with automated garages where vehicles can be stored in a minimal space and then transferred to the driver in the most convenient location of the building. These automated parking systems also can park more vehicles using less space. The challenge in this scenario is to let EV users park their vehicles exactly as they would park a conventional car with the only additional task of plugging it. This simplicity of use can be achieved thanks to the integration of the parking and charging systems (including SW and HW of both systems). This integration also allows the optimization of operation, maintenance and management of the energy supply system, especially with residential customers whose vehicle usage patterns can be precisely modeled and predicted in this kind of automated parking systems.
