With the advent of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) it became obvious that existing technology of charging the EVs via cable will not meet future consumer demands. The unpleasant handling of dirty cables is not user-friendly and the overall system is too complex. The most important drawback is the non-acceptable long charging time. Non-contact plugless charging, that we all know from our electrical toothbrushes, is a very promising solution for the charging of EVs. This article reviews high efficiency inductive charging and highlights field-proven developments of J. Lasslop GmbH.
