Power electronics for automotive traction generate interference levels with amplitudes that are at least one magnitude higher compared to the ones of conventional cars. Therefore shielded cables are widely used for the automotive traction grid. In this paper the mechanisms of cable shielding are evaluated by tracing back the factors that influence the shielding performance. Therefore a simulation model for cables is developed, which allows a prediction of interference on system level with all high voltage components. The simulation results lead to a better understanding of the shielding mechanism and show potential of optimization for EMC related costs.
