Occupancy Grid Mapping is a well known method to describe the environment of a mobile platform such as a robot or a vehicle. Mostly the mapping algorithm is based on a Bayesian formulation of the occupancy likelihoods. This paper discusses the limits of this formulation and presents an alternative description based on the Dempster-Shafer-Theory of Evidence. Both formulation are compared and their correlation is shown.
