A continuously growing number of vehicles on our street is equipped with radar nowadays. It is important to investigate the interaction between the different radars to identify possible problems before the market penetration of radar devices is significantly increasing. This paper introduces a current approach for the simulation of automotive radars within large dynamic traffic scenarios. A map editor is used to create a 3D environment, a ray-tracing tool based on Geometric Optics (GO) is used to simulate the wave propagation effects, while the radar post-processing in done in Matlab. Two simulation examples are given. A tunnel scenario illustrates the effect of a multi-path environment which leads to the occurring of Ghost Targets (GT), where an open road scenario is used to demonstrate the reduced dynamic when an Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar is interfered by an continuous wave (CW) radar.
