Due to the development and introduction of optical signalling systems with LED (light-emitting diodes) technology, the decentralisation of electronic subassemblies to the respective outside facility elements like axle-counters, signalling systems and controlling of inductive train safety devices combined with the separation of power and data, the electronic Interlocking System ZSB 2000 from Scheidt & Bachmann comes with a very low energy consumption. There is also the implementation of a serial bus system CAN (controller area networks) Bus for all components which has a favourable effect on the energy consumption. Due to these facts there is also the opportunity to achieve great distances for optical signalling systems with small wire cross sections. The results are simplified planning, cost savings for wiring and a higher operational availability.
