This paper presents a new scheme for actuator fault detection and isolation with application to actuator health monitoring on an aircraft. The SMAC-FDI (Single Model Active Fault Detection and Isolation System) efficiently detects and isolates a faulty actuator in a system. This method has a short response time and is robust against model uncertainties, sensor noise, external disturbances. The algorithm is computationally efficient. No sensor is needed to measure the position of an actuator. The method is illustrated on an small unmanned aircraft.
