Transient noises perceived inside the car while wiping the windscreen can be very annoying. As they appear randomly, there is no obvious relation with influential factors, and remain unpredictable. A test methodology to characterise proclivity of wiper rubber blades to create such transient noises is described. This methodology is based on statistical data mining processing tools and its results are independent from the car type. Validation tests of this method - R&R tests, comparison between tests on two benches and tests on a car - are presented. Thus, it is possible to study the influence of various factors on transient noises presence: several experiments are presented, showing the high influence of wiping speed on such proclivity to create transient noises. Short time duration transient noises appear quite randomly on a car while wiping. In order to predict transient noises occurrence on car associated to a rubber blade type, a new methodology on 2 different test benches is proposed and validated. Acceptable reproducibility and repeatability results are obtained. Decision trees statistical tool is used and statistical analysis leads to give a hierarchy among influent factors. Speed factor is a very important factor in all presented parametrical studies. This powerful tool enables to prospect a very wide range of possibilities for at least squeal and whining noises and probably all wiping transient noises occurrence reduction on cars for the future.
