The calibration of an electronic compass using angular-rate information from low-cost micro-electromechanical systems gyroscopes is presented. The calibration procedure requires turning the compass through a full circle and only a single reference heading measurement. The method used for the calibration should preserve the high accuracy of existing methods, while simplifying the calibration procedure. The deviation of the new method from the standard calibration method should be less than 1 degrees. We have shown that the proposed method fulfills this requirement.
