An upper-wedge-type electronic wedge brake (EWB) with a new structure (moving upper wedge) was proposed. The EWB consists of a bearing grip stick (BGS), a single motor, roller, and upper wedge. Dynamic modelling of the motor, reduction gear, screw, BGS, and wedge was performed, and a braking performance simulator for the EWB and EWB-equipped vehicle was developed. The braking performance of the proposed EWB was verified via the test bench and dynamometer test. The results of the simulation and test showed that the EWB proposed in this study had the required braking performance without jamming the wedge. Despite the change in the friction coefficient, the EWB yielded a performance that depended on the target clamping force by push-pull control of the upper wedge through a motor. The results of this study can be used as a basis for the design and control of upper-wedge-type EWBs.
