A decade after starting series production of CR-systems for passenger cars, and five years after the first Bosch injection system using piezo technology, Bosch has successfully brought the first 2000 bar CR-system for passenger cars into series production. It has therefore contributed another technological milestone in the continuation of the diesel success story. Increased system pressure was possible by advanced CR-components as well as system functions. The piezo injector is characterized by very high needle dynamics and minimized pressure losses. It has already proven its reliability by being in the field for several million times for pressures up to 1800 bar. The CP4 achieves best values for hydraulic efficiency and weight. Newly developed system functions contribute to highly precise fuel metering during the entire lifetime of a CR-system. Using such functions system tolerances, and finally injection tolerances can be significantly lowered. Furthermore, new vehicle concepts, such as start/stop operation can optimally support CR-systems in terms of fuel savings. In total the CR-system supports different combustion concepts using system pressures up to 2000 bar. Together with improvements in hydraulic efficiency, weight and system functionalities the new 2000 bar CR-system contributes considerably to a reduction of CO2-emissions.
