A new method is presented for the numerical solution of structural dynamics problems at higher frequencies. This method combines the advantages of plane wave and moving least square approximations, and it naturally embeds the spectral information into the discrete system of equations. With a much coarser discretisation of the problem domain, the new method can achieve the same or higher accuracy compared to conventional finite element method. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the use and effectiveness of the new method.
