When driving at night, a majority of visibility information is usable in the area being illuminated by the headlights of the car, and whether or not the headlamps appropriately illuminate the area the driver wants to see is one of the deciding factors of the comfort and safety of traveling at night. Therefore, in order to improve the visibility of traveling at night, the AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System) was introduced and the light distribution of headlights are made variable for conditions of road configurations and traveling speed. Studies have been conducted pertaining to changes of line-of-sight movement of the driver in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the AFS. An evaluation method has been proposed in which the amount of line-of-sight movement in the horizontal direction is used as an analysis me-thod which focuses on the line-of-sight movement of the drive time of the driver. It shows a greater increase in line-of-sight movement distribution to the curve depth when light distribution is present in comparison to when it is absent, and it is effective for the driver in terms of being able to see points at a distance. However, this research describes the support effect on visual behavior of the driver by the AFS; however, it does not mention changes of visual behavior and the effects on the operation of the driver. When considering the basic control characteristics of humans, it can be said that the driver operates the accelerator, brake, and steering wheel by obtaining es-sential information from such things as vision, operational ability, and motion perception, and recognizing circumstances of vehicle motion and a target course and, furthermore, making judgments that they will appropriately relate to each other.
