Overhead presentation. There is an increased use of composite materials in aircraft structures. Composites are currently used in frame structures. In the project presented in this paper, an innovative composite design for Load Introduction Rib (LIR) has been developed. Project goals have been: Innovative composite design (No black metal); Low manufacturing costs; Low weight; High robustness with low maintenance costs. The development steps are presented: Modification of exist. Flap FEM; New Design of LIR (CAD); New FEM Model of LIR; Integration of LIR Model in Flap Model; Integration of Rivets; Application of Loads; Analysis of Stresses. The preform concept and the manufacturing process are presented in the presentation. A vacuum free infiltration process (VAP) is used to further reduce manufacturing costs and could successfully be evaluated by the manufacturing pretest.
