In this paper, a model of a variable geometry force actuator is introduced. It is embedded in an active suspension model and used to make a comparison with several reference systems on disturbance reduction properties and energy requirements. It is shown, using simulations with a single suspended mass and a stochastic excitation, that the disturbance reduction of the various active systems is nearly identical. However, the energy requirements greatly differ. The peak energy requirements with the variable geometry force actuator is shown to be considerably lower than that of the other active suspensions.
