Large attention is paid to techniques for determining the mechanical stresses in steel constructions, because it is possible to estimate the operational reliability and safety of a given construction only after the technical conditions of the metal are determined. Above- and underground gas pipelines, which operate under a constant load, are important devices powering industrial regions. Determining the mechanical stresses in pipelines is an urgent technical problem. There are a number of known techniques for determining mechanical stresses in tubes of gas pipelines, each of which has certain positive and negative features. A good technique for determining mechanical stresses in constructions is considered. In this technique, when a specimen from a material similar to the construction material is stretched, the anisotropy of the coercive force (ACF) is measured that is determined as the difference of the values of the coercive force measured across and along an applied load and, then, the dependence of the ACF on the stress in the specimen is determined. This technique for determining the stressed state of aboveground pipelines the estimate of whose operating conditions under repair makes it possible to decide on their further operation or the need to repair them, thus generally increasing the service life and safety of the pipelining operation, is given.
