Hyundai-Kia Motor has developed a new high-powered clean and eco-friendly diesel engine which will form the top of 2.0/2.2 l segment to comply with the EURO5 emission standard. It ensures superior power and torque with optimized NVH, power density of about 68 kW/l and maximum specific torque of 198 Nm/l. In the paper the Combustion chamber and air utilization system are described in detail: combustion chamber, intake port concept, CFD - Computational Fluid Dynamics. The refined calibrations ascertain the best compromise of the fuel economy and acoustic comfort. Replacement of the conventional materials with plastic contributed to improved recyclability and fuel consumption. The close coupled after treatment system ensured minimization of the CO and THC emissions, effective PM regeneration and maintenance free DPF system. It is expected to play an important role of appealing Hyundai-Kia Motors. medium size vehicles.
