A total stamping simulation system, which enables the advanced study of the formability of stamping parts and the accuracy of assembled parts, has been developed. It can be applied from the vehicle-body-parts design phase to the production preparation phase. The developed system consists of 1) simulation technologies to enable parts designers to evaluate the function and formability of a part, 2) simulation technologies to predict the dimensions of stamping parts with high precision and 3) simulation technologies to obtain parts with high dimensional accuracy after the connection of stamping parts by hemming. The system can be used to drastically reduce the vehicle development period without reducing the dimensional accuracy of parts. We have outlined our proposed total stamping simulation system, which enables the advanced study of the formability of stamping parts and the accuracy of assembled parts. It can be applied from the vehicle-bodyparts design phase to the production preparation phase in vehicle development. The developed system consists of 1) simulation technologies to enable parts designers to evaluate the function and formability of a part, 2) simulation technologies to predict the dimensions of stamping parts with high accuracy and 3) simulation technologies to obtain parts with high dimensional accuracy after the connection of stamping parts by hemming in addition to predicting the formability of vehicle stamping parts. It was confirmed that the results obtained from the developed system coincide with the results of trials of parts under development. The system is already being applied to actual operations, contributing to a shortening of the vehicle development time. The system is expected to be used widely to increase the efficiency of development in the future. It can not only reduce the number of trials but also act as an automatic searching system for parts and die geometries that can produce parts without defects by its integration with optimization technologies.
