Short notice given only substantially as follows: AmSafe Bridport introduced its latest cargo pallet nets for commercial aviation. These pallet nets are among the lightest in weight in the world. The nets have a unique design and are manufactured using specialized techniques from the ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibre, Dyneema, made by DSM Dyneema of The Netherlands. Cargo pallet nets for aviation can be called on to instantly restrain up to 6.81 at forces of 3 g in order to protect the integrity of an aircraft. AmSafe Bridport's pallet nets are designed therefore to meet and often exceed the stringent requirements of the world's aviation regulatory authorities. Further, in January 2009, the European Union (EU) introduced legislation to include aviation in its Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS). This proposed legislation addresses the industry's need to minimize the weight of aircraft to improve their fuel efficiencies and so reduce emissions. Just recently, more than two hundred airlines together with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) have committed to halve emissions, from the base levels of 2005, by 2050. An air cargo pallet net made with 100% Dyneema weighs in at around 7 kg, which is up to 12 kg, or more than 60% lighter than a standard polyester net. In addition to being substantially lighter, they are easy to handle and long-lasting with [European] and [US] certification for a lifetime of five years, helping airlines save on maintenance and repair costs.' Pallet nets, while an integral part of the restraint system for cargo loaded on to an aircraft, are often viewed more as commodity items. This is largely due to their relatively low cost, when compared with containers and other equipment. Additionally, polyester nets have a shorter life expectancy of 1-3 years, whereas containers have an expected lifetime of anywhere from 7-15 years, according to DSM Dyneema.
