As the regulations for side impact safety of automobiles become more stringent, higher strength DIMs (door impact beams) have become necessary. Recently, an ultra-high-strength, hot rolled steel has been developed for this purpose. Due to its optimized chemical composition, the newly developed steel also exhibits excellent delayed-fracture resistance characteristics. DIBs made of the newly developed steel respond very well to crash situations and have a delayed fracture resistance of 1620 MPa. Applications for this newly developed steel are expected to grow.
