The progress in the development of the Vegetation Instrument (VI) for the PROBA V Earth Observation mission is presented. PROBA-V is an earth observation mission for the continuity of the actual SPOT/VEGETATION mission until Sentinel-3 will become operational. The payload is a multispectral spectrometer with four spectral bands. To guarantee daily coverage of the earth, a very large swath of 2250 km is envisaged. The ground resolution of the instrument will be at least 1000 m. The payload will consist of three spectral imagers (SIS), containing of a very compact TMA (three mirrors anastigmat) telescopes. The three SIS are mounted on a common optical bench and aligned to each other to cover the full swath. Feasibility studies have revealed two major criticalities in the payload, being the manufacturing and alignment. It are presented the first achievements of both development programs. The instrument contains three Spectral Imagers (SIS) that will provide multispectral images in three VNIR (Visible) and in one NIR (Near Infrared) band. Each SI contains one telescope, a beam splitter to separate the spectral bands, spectral bandpass filters to select the spectral bands, and the focal plane arrays. The status of the development projects related to the detector is detailed. The vegetation instrument of the PROBA-V mission will make use of a set of three such telescopes, identical to each other.
