In order to more realistically simulate the curving performance of a Maglev vehicle with U-shaped electromagnetic suspension, which provide levitation and guidance force, the use of a full vehicle multibody dynamic model was presented. The appropriateness of the dynamic model proposed was verified through actual vehicle tests. The full vehicle model with fewer simplifications and assumptions has the advantage of providing much more information about dynamic responses and permitting more realistic curving simulations. With the model, the effects of guiderail length, coupling bogies, bogie yaw inertia, and the staggering of electromagnets on lateral air gap variation were analysed. From the simulation results, it could be noted that staggering and bogies connected with dampers decrease the variations in lateral air gap, whereas on the other hand, the decreased bogie inertia and connection of bogies with bars increase lateral air gap variations. Since the air gap variations are different on each bogie, the improved mechanism and suspension are required to make the lateral air gaps on each bogie as uniform as possible. It could be stated that these reults could be obtained through the use of the full vehicle multibody dynamic model.
