In large vessels, there are dozens of regional, compartment, and group panel boards and there are hundreds of electric motors and other electric-power consumers, so the process of finding a short-circuit point and switch-on blockage associated with an existing short circuit must be automated. The article discusses schemes of implementing insulation control relays that provide the automated detection of faulty insulation with consequent blocking of the switching-on of electric equipment, as well as energizing the electrical-distribution network. The regular switching-off of net breakers during insulation testing must be conducted at minimal voltage or minimal current relay signal so as to not disturb the power supply of consumers. Finding a sector of the vessel's electric net or an electric consumer with a faulty phase or linear insulation is advisable to accompany operation or alarm breakers consisting of circuit breakers and magnetic starters. The automatization of the process of finding net sectors and consumers with decreased insulation resistance will considerably reduce the work hours of renewal in vessels. Blocking the net sector or a consumer with faulty insulation prevents interphase and double across-the-frame short cicuits, as well as increases the electric and fire safety of electric equipment.
