The two charts in the previous section show that, the hydroformed and foam filled tube outperforms an ideal T-shape with a uniform 2 mm thickness and underperforms an ideal Tshape with a uniform 3 mm thickness, with a similar total weight. However, the complexity and cost of the proposed method is significantly higher and a full cost/benefit evaluation for each particular case should be made before an actual implementation of the process. Probably, the combination of these two technologies could be more effective: if the foam would be applied only in the areas that result locally weakened, due to the thinning resulting from the hydroforming process; if the foam would be used as a filler for some hydroformed hollow components, meant as a substitute for a traditionally bulk or massive workpiece. examples).
