The dynamics of the transmission market at present are remarkable. In addition to new transmissions concepts, the number of vehicle-engine-transmission combinations has increased and the development time was significantly reduced in the last years. The DRV method developed at the Institute of Automotive Engineering allows the determination of customer-relevant, representative load spectra for load-bearing elements and shift elements already in early development phases, when only the transmission concept, transmission ratios and some basic vehicle parameters are known. On this basis, test rig specifications can already be defined without an existing transmission by means of new approaches in terms of test rig-specific, automatic development of durability test cycles. This paper presents the approach of developing design and test specifications based on only a few vehicle parameters in terms of frontloading to early development processes on the example of power shift transmissions (AT and DCT).
