The experiments have shown that the pristine threads exhibited dramatic deterioration of mechanical properties under the exposure to AO fluxes, though relative mass losses and hence thinning, were not high. The conclusion agrees with results of flight experiments on board of ''MIR'' Space Station. At space exposures of 2.5 and 3.5 years, the breaking load of polyimide threads fell by a factor of 3 and 6.6, respectively, while the reduction in thickness was only 1.7% and 13% respectively the literature. Another open space experiment has shown that Arimid thread seams broke unloaded after 10 years of exposure while at that condition the mass loss was only 15% [literature].
