The growth in size and number of RoRo-vessels operating in European Shortsea Shipping has increased the pressure on cargo handling performance at port. An integrated approach hi designing terminals and ships has to be followed and simulation becomes an important tool to avoid costly shortcomings in cargo operations. Since such analysis normally has to be done under time pressure and varying circumstances, it is important to have a flexible simulation tool that enables the designer to generate and modify the simulation model in a very short time. During the last years Flensburger Shipyard and the Department of Design and Operation of Maritime Systems at TU Berlin have developed a Toolbox that allows a combination of predefined blocks from a library to build up a simulation model of any arbitrary RoRo-Terminal. In this paper the development process of this toolbox and the basic principles followed are described. Finally an example illustrates the set up of a terminal model built by using the presented approach.
