This paper presents an approach to model features and logical architectures (represented as function nets) of automotive systems comprehensively. The authors argue that modeling them explicitly is an important step in the development process. In order to bridge the gap between feature requirements and complete function nets, they outline an approach to describe both using a SysML-based notation. To obtain reusable descriptions of features and function nets in the presence of changing requirements, requests for new features or technology, it is important for developers to have a good overview and understanding of the functions affected. They show that this can be comprehensively modeled using views, so called 'feature function nets'. In order to validate views against the complete function nets, consistency checks are provided.
