This article reports on the investigation for AiF Research Project 14.573 N which is entitled 'Investigation into the fracture behaviour of resistance spot welds on higher-strength steels' and deals with the question as to whether and to what extent conclusions about the load-bearing behaviour of the welded joint can be drawn from the failure behaviour during the chisel test close to fabrication conditions. The investigations were conducted for various steel materials used in modern vehicle bodies and for typical sheet thicknesses used there.
