With a growing interest the LCM processes are investigated in aeronautical industry. The Non Crimp Fabrics (NCF) have demonstrated their ability to be used in the manufacturing of such semi-products called preforms for structural parts. But their industrialisation brings new problems m comparison with the classical Hand Lay-Up of pre-impregnated materials. We are here analysing the kinds of specific deformation modes of NCF which occur on experimental preforms for structural composites parts for helicopters. On a representative Z-profile, we analyse capabilities of a simulation tool of draping. In order to assess the reliability of the results we proceeded to an experimental measurement study with a Preform Measurement System in use by Eurocopter Group. The comparison between the experimental orientation of fibres and the one simulated gave interesting results about the important parameter to be taken into account for the forming of the NCF.
