After researching operation condition of desert, authors propose that the air prefiltcr should be optimized first of all, if you want to resolve the most difficult problem of the early wear of truck engine. After researching and contrasting the relative merits of different air prcfilters, the most suitable prefiltcr is made up of axial-flow cyclone pipes. The cyclone pipe with large flow is one of the main research subjects. Via optimum design to each parameter of cyclone pipe and utilizing 7 cyclone pipes as a unit of test research, the selected cyclone pipe with different parameters has been tested, in order to obtain the cyclone pipe which is with large flow and low resistance and with prefilter efficiency tallying with demands. It is for the purpose of combining the prefilter with the least cyclone pipes to decrease the volume of desert filter, so that can lay out it in heavy duty truck rationally. The automatic dust exhausting installation of the prefiltcr is one of the necessary requirement of desert air filter. Authors have been developed two desert air filters with different structure, those can be respectively utilized in the diesel which the automatic dust exhausting can or can't be executed by diesel exhaust scavenged. Prefilter with axialflow cyclone pipe with high dust separating efficiency, compacted structure, it can accept flow from upper guided by pipeline, and can implement automatic dust ejecting via. laying the cyclone pipe norizontally. It is the most suitable prefilter for the desert air filter of the heavy duty truck. It is possible to obtain the cyclone pipe which is with large flow and lower pressure loss and with the prefilter efficiency conforming to the demand of the desert air filter via. optimum design of the inlet flow, the helix angle of guide vane and the inner diameter of the cyclone pipe. The volume of the prefilter can be reduced efficiently, and the filter assembly can be installed in heavy duty truck favorably. The inlet of desert air filter should be installed higher as much as possible. Practice proved that the dust content gathering from air flow at 2.5 meters high than at 1.25 meters high would reduce 47%.
