Overhead presentation. In this presentation the use of simulation at Bombardier Transportation is outlined. Simulation is used for static and fatigue analysis. For concept analysis and layout finite element modelling, modal analysis and ride control estimation are used. In structural mechanics (carbody, bogie, components, equipment, interfaces, connections, welded joints, bolts) the finite element method is applied. In crash analysis methods such as 1D analysis, or FEM are applied. In acoustics and vibration static and crash models are not fine enough, other methods are used as well as in aerodynamics and thermodynamics. Here highly sophisticated tools are applied: Aero Efficient Train Shape Optimization using computer-aided engineering tools and genetic algorithms.
