Driver Machine Interface (DMI) is a slave unit of the train onboard computer (EVC) in the ERTMS automatic train control system. The SAFEDMI project aimed at the development of a DMI that fulfills the requirements of Safety Integrity Level 2 according to the CENELEC development standards. Formal methods were successfully applied in the quantitative evaluation of the DMI. It is presented an overview of the methods applied for the evaluation of the architecture, the wireless communication protocol, and the error detection codes. The DMI is responsible for the display of the information originating from the EVC (that supports the train driving) and the acquisition of driver's commands. Accordingly, its main hardware component are a display and a keyboard. Its functions and ergonomic requirements are defined in CENELEC requirement documents (CENELEC, 2005).
