The modeling of systems, the support organization and the evaluation of their performances are the key phases of any logistic support study and risk analysis. However, the methods most frequently used for this purpose are in some cases maladjusted, particularly if it is necessary to take into account the dynamic characteristics of these systems and/or the support means intended for their purpose. To remedy this deficiency, simulation methods are very useful. Therefore, it is presented an application of stochastic Petri nets in order to analyze the functioning of the signaling maintenance on high speed lines in France. It follows from the study that, within the framework of an enlarged remote monitoring (management of sensors and adapted treatments) and of a quick analysis of the information (maintenance organization, supervision center), a profit of 25 % of lost minutes due to elements failures can be obtained on high speed lines. Generally, this type of modeling, correlating dysfunctional behavior of particular components with the intended maintenance support organization, offers some advantages: a unique formalism allows a global representation that makes it possible to easily manage all types of dependencies that could exist concerning the occurrence of events during the lifetime of the system. It is easy to express operational restrictions and maintenance strategies.
